Key Enhancements

Solution to open locally saved reports

Each InstantAtlas Desktop report published with version 6.12.0 includes an ‘atlas-launch.html’ file. This file can be used to open the dynamic report while it is saved at a local destination e.g. your C drive.

As a result we have re-introduced the ‘View Report’ button into the final screen of the InstantAtlas Publisher, which opens the ‘atlas-launch.html’ file.

For dynamic reports published with a version of InstantAtlas Desktop prior to 6.12.0, a command line tool called  iapackager can be used to create the necessary files for local use.

For further information about this solution, please see the Using the atlas-launch.html section of the ‘Starting Your Dynamic Report’ page.

Simplified way to move or reinstall InstantAtlas Desktop

As we continue to move InstantAtlas product collateral to the Esri UK website, the Resource Library has been retired. The link to the InstantAtlas Desktop installation file can now be found in your release announcement email for InstantAtlas Desktop version 6.12.0 . Please save this link for future use. If you did not receive the announcement email or have misplaced it, but had a valid maintenance contract at the time of the release (December 2021), please contact support@instantatlas.com.

Any other relevant resources from the Resource Library are either copied to your computer during the installation process or are available in our online help.

Version 6.12.0 of InstantAtlas Desktop comes with a licence file that is no longer tied to the GUID of the computer it is installed on. This means that replacement licence files are no longer required when InstantAtlas Desktop is being installed on a new or reformatted computer. An existing licence file will continue to work on the computer it was activated on even after InstantAtlas Desktop has been upgraded to version 6.12.0.

      Compatibility Notes

Compatibility Between Reports of the Same HTML Template but Different Versions

You may wish to publish a version 6.12.0 HTML dynamic report to benefit from the enhancements/bug fixes but retain the data and custom design that you created for an older HTML report. Of the files that contain the data/design, some can be safely copied over from an older report while others cannot. The table in the sections below show which files can safely be copied into a version 6.12.0 report.

Please note that you will have to run the iapackager tool after you copied a config.xml and/or data file(s) into your report folder if you wish to see those changes when using the atlas-launch.html file to open your locally saved report.

      File Notes
Data files (data.js and supporting theme files) Yes, can be copied to a v6.12.0 report
Stylesheet (default.css) Yes, can be copied to a v6.12.0 report. Note that the old style sheet will not contain new settings which were introduced in newer versions.1
Configuration file (config.xml) Yes, can be copied to a v6.12.0 report. Note that the old configuration file will not contain new settings or components which were introduced in newer versions.

1 If you are using map labels and your old stylesheet is of version 6.6.0 or 6.6.1 you will not be able to copy it into a 6.12.0 report as the labels may not appear as expected.
