Proportional Circles and Proportional Circles (synced data selection)

The Proportional Circles and Proportional Circles (synced data selection) dashboard layouts allows two different data layers to be displayed on the same map with one overlaying on top of the other. Each of the data layers has its own set of widgets, such as maps, charts and tables. This template is commonly used to display graduated points over shaded polygons which can be an effective way of presenting either numerical data (points) over categorical data (polygons), or count values (points) over rates (polygons).

Click on the links below to find out more about each of the two layouts.

  2. Proportional Circles (synced data selection)

Proportional Circles

The Proportional Circles layout offers the ability to combine the contents of two individual data layers in one dashboard with the second data layer overlaid on top of the first data layer in the map. Please click on the image below to view a demo report with the Proportional Circles layout.

Proportional Circles Layout Demo

The dashboard in this example uses two Edinburgh postcode sectors layers, one polygon layer and the other point layer as the two data layers for the layout. You can see each data layers has its own bar chart, time series chart and table but is displayed on the same map. Each data layer is also associated with a separate CSV data file, the proportional circles layout allows the themes and indicators to be set up differently in the Data Model for each layer as demonstrated here.

Proportional Circles (synced data selection) Layout

Similar to the Proportional Circles layout, the Proportional Circles (synced data selection) offers the ability to display the contents of two individual data layers in one dashboard with an overlay map but it is designed for displaying data from the two data layers with an identical data model theme and indicator structure.

The dashboard in this example uses two Edinburgh postcode sectors layers, one polygon layer and the other point layer as the two data layers for the layout. You can see the two data layers are both displayed on the map but each has its own table and chart. There is only one Data button and Data Explorer panel to control the data selection for both data layers (data selection synchronisation). Each data layer is associated with a separate CSV data file, but the themes and indicators set in the Data Model are identical.

Note: the data model structure for both data layers must be the same in order for this layout to function properly.
